Shush! Bank Indonesia Is Secretly Making Investment Projects In The Hereafter, What Is It?
JAKARTA - The Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo said that his party is currently carrying out the Investment Project in the Hereafter which is held for internal central bank circles. According to Perry, this step is a concrete manifestation of encouraging the strengthening of the value of waqf in an Islamic manner as well as empowering human beings within BI.
"This is the third year we launched productive waqf mobilization for BI leaders and employees, which we call the Investment Project in the Hereafter," he said in the webinar of the New Era of Waqf through Digital Transformation and Ecosystem Strengthening, Friday, May 7.
Perry added that these activities were also part of the work culture movement at Bank Indonesia which was based on religious spirituality.
"Alhamdulillah, from year to year we can continue to mobilize productive waqf generated from friends at the central bank," he said.
For example, the BI boss announced that one of the results of the Hereafter Investment Project was the accumulation of cash waqf worth Rp980 million which was then allocated in the form of Qur'anic waqf. It did not stop there, he also explained that the productive waqf raised had entered into five priority sectors, including worship and the economic sector.
"We are mobilizing this productive waqf fund for the construction of a mosque in the Mamuju earthquake site. Then we also channel the funds collected for investment in agriculture, such as buying a number of land in Sukabumi to be managed by local Islamic boarding schools in order to strengthen food security, "he explained.
For information, Law Number 41 of 2004 concerning Waqf states that the purpose of waqf is to utilize waqf property according to its function.
Waqf has a function to realize the potential and economic benefits of waqf property for the benefit of worship and to advance public welfare.
Based on data from the National Zakat Agency (Baznas), as of 2020, the total funds for zakat, infaq, alms and waqf (Ziswaf) are estimated to reach IDR 12.5 trillion. This figure grew from the amount per 2019 which was in the position of IDR 10.6 trillion.
This year, the amount is estimated to increase to IDR 19.77 trillion. Although the collection continues to increase every year, the accumulated amount of Ziswaf is insignificant compared to its potential which reaches IDR 327 trillion.
