Finalizing Online Transportation Rules, Ministry Of Transportation: Needs Vigilance

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Land Transportation is processing and finalizing online transportation regulations in order to create rules that are fair and sustainable for the entire ecosystem.

Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan said that as a regulator in the transportation sector, the Ministry of Transportation needs to absorb various information and data to decide a transportation policy that is fair and sustainable.

Aan said that currently there are more than 7 million online motorcycle taxi partners spread throughout Indonesia. In addition to online motorcycle taxi drivers, there are also MSME players whose lives depend on the online transportation ecosystem.

Furthermore, Aan said that this regulation related to the ecosystem also involves various other ministries/agencies such as the Ministry of Communication and Digital related to application platforms, the Ministry of Manpower related to the labor system, and so on.

"Therefore, we need to look at all points of view and be careful in making policies," he said in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activity with the theme Fair and Sustainable Online Transportation, quoted from a press release, Friday, July 25.

This FGD presents experts and academics in the transportation sector including Piter Abdullah, Okto Risdianto Manullang, Tulus Abadi, Ki Darmaningtyas, and Wijayanto Samirin.

The things discussed are the Survey Analysis Report on the Impact of Tariff Increase Towards a Fair Online Transportation Ecosystem, Online Transportation Business, Aspirations of Online Ojek Drivers as well as recommendations - policy recommendations for the government.

Azas Tigor Nainggolan as the Transportation Policy Analyst stated that if you want to build online transportation fairly, there must be clear legal rules regarding online transportation.

"The rules concern motorcycle regulations as a means of public transportation, regulations for online transportation businesses, stakeholders for online transportation businesses, drivers, public transportation companies, and application companies themselves," he said.

Meanwhile, applicator representatives say that the current cost of a discounted applicator is at a balance point. Meanwhile, it is intended for technology development, operational costs, driver welfare programs, to promotional prices for consumers.
