Cambodia Urges UN DK Meeting To Discuss War With Thailand On Border
JAKARTA - Cambodia has requested a meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the war with Thailand in the disputed border area of the two countries.
"Kamboja has requested a Security Council meeting. We have not scheduled it yet," Pakistan's Mission told RIA Novosti.
The longstanding dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over the Preah Vihear Temple of the 11th century, the UNESCO World Heritage site, has increased dramatically in Kamisini.
After tensions escalated over the previous few weeks as a result of landmine incidents and diplomatic expulsion by both sides, as well as heavy artillery strikes and rockets near border temples.
Citing Thailand's Ministry of Health, Al Jazeera reported bombings and shootings had killed 11 civilians and a soldier in Thailand.
Authorities in four Thailand provinces bordering Cambodia have announced the evacuation of residents amid the escalation, according to a newspaper The Nation report.

For more than a century, Thailand and Cambodia have been fighting for sovereignty at various points that are unrestricted along their land border which is 817 km (508 miles) long.
The dispute caused minor fighting for several years and at least dozens of deaths, including during a week-long artillery shootout in 2011.
Tensions escalated again in May 2025 after the killing of a Cambodian soldier in a brief firefight, which has escalated to a massive diplomatic crisis and has now sparked armed clashes.
