PSSI Appreciates AFC's Decision To Change The 2026 World Cup Qualification Schedule

JAKARTA - PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir appreciated the positive response of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) regarding Indonesia's request regarding the adjustment of the match schedule in Group B of the Fourth Round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification in the Asian Zone.

Initially, the Indonesian national team was scheduled to face Saudi Arabia on October 8, 2025 at 20:15 local time and meet Iraq on October 11 at 18.00 local time.

However, considering the aspect of recovery of Indonesian players and geographical distance as the only representative from outside the Middle East region, PSSI wrote to AFC and submitted a request for adjustment of match time.

Responding to the condensation, the AFC expressed a willingness to change the schedule by shifting the kick-off time to 22.30 local time.

This was chosen to at the same time provide a more ideal recovery time for the Garuda Squad.

"We would like to thank the AFC for its positive response and decision reflecting the spirit of sportsmanship and justice."

"Indonesia has previously accommodated Japan's request for a rescheduling of matches. We believe that mutual respect and respect for the principles of Fair Play is the key to joint progress," said Erick Thohir at a press conference in Jakarta, quoted from a statement received Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Furthermore, Erick emphasized that PSSI is now directing a full focus on the preparation of the Indonesian national team ahead of the trial agenda in September 2025. According to him, optimism and fighting spirit will be the basis for the Garuda Squad to navigate the decisive match.
