JAKARTA - Tourists in Thailand are confirmed safe and their vacations are not affected by the increasing conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.

The war broke out between troops of the two countries on the border between Thailand and Cambodia, which began with a shootout between ground troops in the disputed region.

Authorities in four Thailand provinces bordering Cambodia have announced the evacuation of residents amid the escalation, the local news agency, Nation, said.

"Russian tourists are currently completely safe, and their vacations are not affected by this incident," the tourism union said, citing Irina Setun, CEO of the Satmarket tour operator.

The association describes locations typically visited by Russian tourists, including several major resorts, located far from the conflict zone.
