Normal Woman A Film Review: Portrait Of Women's Problems Layer

JAKARTA - Director Lucky Kuswandi presents his latest film, A Normal Woman, which marks his latest collaboration with Netflix. He wrote this film with Andri Cung under the production of Soda Machine Films which became their first production.

The film A Normal Woman project was announced last year which appointed Marissa Anita as the main character. This film is also played by Dion Wiyoko, Widyawati, Mima Shafa, and Gisella Anastasia.

Film A Normal Woman tells the story of Milla (Missa Anita), a woman who lives a perfect life; husband a businessman and a comfortable home. In addition to that perfect life, Milla tries to present the best for her (Widyawati) father-in-law who is the leader of the house.

Milla also supports her husband's efforts, Jonathan Gunawan (Dion Wiyoko), who is now developing a supplement brand that has many fans.

On the other hand, Milla is facing the growth of her child, Angel (Mima Shafa), who is now starting to rebel against her parents. The low self-confidence even made Angel intend plastic surgery according to her grandmother's advice.

One night, Milla felt her body was starting to itching plus she heard mysterious sounds around the walls of her house. Since then, his world has begun to change.

The film A Normal Woman presents tensions since the first minute of play. Marissa Anita as the main character is able to present the intensity and portrait of a perfect wife who is confined by the house. His life seemed like an auto-pilot that felt relevant but heartbreaking.

The introduction of his character is also not as memorable as Milla so the film runs flat. Although each character has its own intensity, the cooking feels trapped.

At first, the plot of this film was interesting. The portrait of a woman questioning her identity with various mysteries that grew around her makes the audience imagine the fantasy side that the creator wants to reveal which direction to develop.

Unfortunately, towards the middle, this film plays its premises (or twists) which it feels it does not confirm the emergence of this mystery. Whereas perhaps from the beginning the premises of the emergence of the mystery will be related to understanding themselves about the film associated with the relationship between the main character and his past.

When a new character, Erika (played by Gisella Anastasia) appears in the life of the Gunawan family, it also feels rushed, such as having to be associated with the interaction of the main characters. Gisel's acting as Erika is quite satisfying, but her appearance is being hunted.

The diversity of characters in the film A Normal Woman actually builds the story but the depth feels empty and 'naughty', as does the story. In the middle minute it felt tired of following Milla's struggle to find out what happened while twist after twists began to emerge.

In the end, this film still manages to present the conflicts experienced by the community today. In the midst of life that is demanded by idealists, often we cannot define ourselves where and as what. The definition of normal that feels gray makes the audience get carried away and feel the need to support Milla.

The film A Normal Woman can be watched on Netflix starting Thursday, July 24.
