David De Gea Doesn't Want To Leak Why The Move To Real Madrid Failed

JAKARTA - Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea said he would only reveal details of his failure to move to Real Madrid after his career ended. He believes that things happen for a reason.

De Gea, who now plays in Fiorentina, will initially join Real Madrid from Manchester United on permanent status on the final day of the 2015 summer transfer market. However, the deal failed because documents were not submitted on time.

After that, each club seemed to blame each other for the failure of the transfer.

"I will talk about all that after my career ends. When something happens, there must be a reason."

"It almost just happened, but the transfer was not completed. Personally, everything went smoothly because Manchester was my home," De Gea told Cronache Di Spogliatoio when asked about it.

De Gea moved to Manchester United in 2011 from Atletico Madrid and won the 2012/2013 Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He then lifted the FA Cup in 2016 and played the Europa League in 2017. De Gea also celebrated the Carabao Cup victory in 2017 and 2023.

The former Spain National Team player left Manchester United after his contract expired in 2023, making 545 appearances.

He then took a one-year long leave before joining Fiorentina in 2024 as a free agent.

"Itu adalah salah satu tahun terbaik dalam hidup saya. Tahun cuti panjang itu sangat bermanfaat bagi saya, baik secara mental maupun fisik."

"I feel a bit tired. I feel it's time to stop and come back stronger. Everything is going well."

"It's true I got offers from other English clubs, but in my heart, it's impossible to play for other clubs."

"I just want to play for Manchester United because it's the club I've developed, where I've spent most of my career."

"I had a very good career there. I also got offers from other countries," said De Gea about his rest period from football.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper made 11 clean-sheets in 42 appearances for Fiorentina in the 2024/2025 season.

He recently signed a new contract with Fiorentina which kept him at Firenze until June 2028.
