Earthquake M 6.3 Guncang Pohuwato, BMKG Asks Residents To Stay Calm
POHUWATO - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) asked the public to remain calm and not be affected if there were issues that could not be justified following the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that rocked Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo, Thursday, July 24 at 03.50 WIB.
Head of Gorontalo Class II Geophysics Station BMKG Andri Wijaya Field when contacted asked the public to avoid buildings that were cracked or damaged by the earthquake.
"Check and make sure the building where you live is earthquake-resistant enough, or there is no damage due to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before you return to the house," he said.
Previously, BMKG released that the Pohuwato earthquake was on land, 8 km southeast of Pohuwato and had no potential for a tsunami.
The coordinates of the earthquake were at 0.43 North Latitude (LU) and 122.02 East Longitude (BT), with a depth of 132 km.
Andri explained that by paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was an intermediate type due to rock deformation activity in the slab.
"The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has an upward movement mechanism," he said.
