Qatar Aims For Host Of The 2036 Olympics, Can Cut Indonesia's Opportunities
JAKARTA Qatar confirmed their interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics, which of course could cut Indonesia's chances of wanting to participate in the bidding.
The Qatari Olympic Committee (QOC) confirmed on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, that it is currently in discussions with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the holding of the quadrennial event.
"This move underscores Qatar's firm commitment to supporting the Olympic and Paralympic Movement and its great interest in playing an active role in advancing global sports," the QOC statement said.
However, the world's largest four-year multi-branching in the midst of the Middle East weather may require a move from the traditional schedule slot of the event.

Previously, in 2022, Qatar had hosted the World Cup. The decision made the event that should have been held in June and July had to be shifted to the end of the year, to be precise in November and December.
QOC president Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani said that currently they already have 95 percent of the sports infrastructure needed to host the Olympics.
They also have a comprehensive plan to ensure 100 percent readiness of all facilities.
"Our goal is more than just to organize successful events. We want to provide global experiences that strengthen the values of inclusiveness, sustainability, and international collaboration," he said.
The new IOC president, Kirsty Coventry, last month said his organization would review the process of determining the Olympic hosts.
Qatar is the latest country to participate in the bidding to host the 2036 Olympics after previously there were offers from Indonesia, Turkey, India and Chile.
Other Asian countries that are considering offering are Saudi Arabia and South Korea. Egypt, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Denmark, and Canada have also shown interest.
The capital city of Qatar, Doha, will host the Asian Games in 2030, having previously hosted the 2006 edition.
If Qatar succeeds in hosting it, Qatar will be the first country in the Middle East to host the Olympics.
This shows the increasing influence of the region with major sporting events. The reason is, Saudi Arabia will also host the World Cup in 2034.
