Jember Police Detains Unej Lecturer Suspected Of Child Abuse With Medical Therapy Mode
JAKARTA - The Jember Police, East Java has arrested a lecturer at the University of Jember (Unej) with the initials RH, a suspect in a case of sexual abuse against a child who is also his nephew.
"The suspect has been arrested on Wednesday (5/5) night and the Satreskrim has carried out the detention," said Deputy Head of Jember Police, Kompol Kadek Ary Mahardika during the release of the case at the Jember Police Headquarters, quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 6.
RH was first committed to sexual harassment or sexual abuse at the end of 2020. RH returned to his second act in mid-March 2021 and the victim had a chance to record his conversation with the suspect.
"The victim's mother reported the incident at the end of March 2021 and a number of witnesses were examined, including the expert witnesses that we presented," he said.
The process of detaining the suspect is carried out after the investigation and completing the administration, and several pieces of evidence in the form of the cellphone used by the victim to record the conversation and the clothes the victim was wearing when the incident was also confiscated.
"The victim is a child aged 16 years and the incident was committed by the suspect in his own house because the victim is his nephew," said Police Commissioner Mahardika.
Kadek explained that the mode of crime was carried out by pretending to carry out breast cancer treatment for the victim and that the suspect used that reason to sexually harass his own nephew.
"A number of pieces of evidence, including a nightgown with a Doraemon picture belonging to the victim and a cellphone containing a voice recording of the conversation between the victim and the suspect, serve as reinforcement and complement to the crime of sexual abuse committed by the suspect," he continued.
RH suspect was charged under Article 82 paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 Jo. Article 76 E of RI Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning Stipulation of Perpu Number 1 of 2016 concerning the Second Amendment to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection.
Meanwhile, the University of Jember finally temporarily released RH from his position as the Coordinator of the Masters Program (S-2) of the Administrative Science Study Program of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Unej as of April 15, 2021, so since then his duties of teaching, guiding, and testing have been freed.
