Review Of Fantastic Four First Steps: Warmth Of New Family Nostalgic Marvel
JAKARTA - Marvel Studio officially released their latest film, Fantastic Four: First Steps. This film is Marvel's new attempt at this film franchise which is often deadlocked.
Under the direction of director Matt Shakman, this film appears with four main characters, namely Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.
As a reboot version, it looks like Marvel doesn't want to involve the complexity and the world in the other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Is this film a good opening?
Fantastic Four: First Steps takes the background of Earth-828, four years have passed since the events of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Benn Grimm, and Johnny Storm have had super powers since exposure to cosmic rays and are known as Fantastic Four.
Sue was revealed to be pregnant with her first child with Reed, but amid that happiness, they were shocked by the presence of the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) which said the entire planet would be swept away by the cosmic of the Galactus (Ralph Ineson).
Reed tried to study the Galactus, even trying to negotiate so that planet Earth would not be destroyed. The four members of Fantastic Four also launched the Excelsionor rocket to fight the Galactus.
Galactus agreed to a deal not to devoured the planet but asked baby Sue and Reed. Sue and Reed rejected the request which was the beginning of the conflict.
The four cast of Fantastic Four are present between the background and the storyline that feels nostalgic. From the early minutes, the title card and its appearance seemed to pay tribute to 1994.

The chemistry that was built between the four players was full of sweet and supporting dynamics. Reed as scientists also seems to be the leader among the group while Ben and Johnny always try to show their best side. That portrait makes them look like a family.
The classic nuances can also be seen from the costumes and production designs they made, as well as Michael Gicchino's musical accompaniment which also carries musical breaths from the 90s' version.
As a reboot, the execution of this film also feels light to digest, ranging from introduction to conflict. Instead of introducing various characters or displaying cameos such as other MCU films, Fantastic Four: First Steps chose to focus on developing the four characters to become good ensembles.
As a result, this film is easy to digest and enjoyed with all the excitement in it. The comedy portion is not as massive as other Marvel films, but this film remains an interesting spectacle.
Fantastic Four: First Steps will hit Indonesian cinemas starting Wednesday, July 23.
