Unlicensed Supplement Blackmores Super Magnesium+ Circulating, Member Of The House Of Representatives Urges BPOM-Kemenkes To Withdraw From The Market

JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX DPR RI, Nurhadi, urged the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) together with the Ministry of Health to withdraw the circulation of the Blackmores Super Magnesium+ health supplement which is known to have no distribution permit and are sold freely on various online platforms.

"I urge BPOM and the Ministry of Health to act quickly and decisively immediately, withdraw all products indicated to be polluted from circulation," said Nurhadi in his statement to reporters, Wednesday, July 23.

The legislator from the NasDem faction said that the product containing vitamin B6 has the potential to become toxic if consumed without supervision, let alone circulating without official permission.

"Search the distribution chain to the roots, and open it to the public who is responsible. Don't compromise," said the member of the DPR from the East Java electoral district.

Nurhadi emphasized that the circulation of health supplements must be closely monitored, and business actors who are proven to be selling dangerous products must be prosecuted.

If there are distributors, importers, or online traders who deliberately trade toxic goods and endanger people's lives, they must be prosecuted. This is no longer a matter of distribution permits, this is a matter of crimes against public health," he said.

Commission IX of the DPR, continued Nurhadi, will immediately summon BPOM and the Ministry of Health to ask for clarification regarding the passing of this illegal product to the market.

"If supervision in the marketplace is this bad, it means that the state is letting its people become victims of poison in front of their eyes," he said.

He also demanded that the e-commerce platform be responsible by verifying all health products sold.

"Large marketplaces should not wash their hands. They have legal and moral responsibility to ensure that the goods they sell are safe and verified. Don't just pursue transactions, but ignore consumer safety," said Nurhadi.

Meanwhile, BPOM through its official website states that the Blackmores Super Magnesium+ product is not registered in the BPOM registration data and does not have a distribution permit in Indonesia. The product is officially marketed only in Australia.

BPOM is currently coordinating with Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to further explore the circulation of the product.

In addition, BPOM has also found several product sales links in the Indonesian marketplace and is working with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, the Indonesian E-Commerce Association (idEA), and related online platforms to lower or block the product sales link.

Business actors who distribute products without distribution can be charged with criminal sanctions as stipulated in Article 435 Jo. Article 138 paragraph (2) and (3) of Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health, with the threat of imprisonment of up to 12 years or a maximum fine of IDR 5 billion.
