His House Is Narrow But Many Residents: Dedi Mulyadi Suggests The Center To Disburse Home Loans
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi advised the central government to roll out a vertical home loan program as a solution to the phenomenon of many uninhabitable houses occupied by more than one family.
"I often find a house that is in poor condition, but is inhabited by a number of families. This happens in most areas in West Java and is experienced by low-income people," said Dedi during a visit to Subang Regency, Antara, Wednesday, July 23.
According to him, this condition can be overcome by providing space for the community to renovate their homes into levels through a financing scheme from the government.
"Through the vertical home loan program, people can borrow funds to add to the floor of their house, so that it is more habitable," he said.
Dedi also criticized the residential approach that was too focused on developing new areas. According to him, such a model requires a long process and is not always effective for low-income people.
There is a long process such as licensing, land acquisition, and others. This makes the basic needs of the place of residence slow to be met," he said.
As an alternative, he suggested that the construction of houses be focused on land owned by residents in villages. This approach is considered faster and in favor of the community.
"The government is sufficient to bear the costs of its construction through a credit scheme. Residents will stay in their villages, there is no need to move to new, distant housing," he added.
The day before, the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait also rolled out a similar program called "Home Financing". This program was introduced in Lembur Pakuan, the residence of the Governor of West Java.
Home Financing is a collaboration between the Ministry of PKP, West Java Provincial Government, PT Sarana Multigriya Finansial (Persero), BP Tapera, PMN, and Bank BJB.
In the program, residents can get micro loans, even starting from Rp. 1 million, for business purposes or house repairs. Funds can be disbursed in three days, and the interest charged is affordable.

On that occasion, Maruarar also symbolically handed over the keys to subsidized houses to 20 FLPP mortgage beneficiaries from Bank BJB. He hopes that this financing scheme can become a bridge for low-income people to have decent and quality houses.
