The Ministry Of Public Works Disburses IDR 630 Billion To Build 63 Suspension Bridges In 2026

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) will build dozens of suspension bridges in various parts of Indonesia by 2026.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said that his party continues to accelerate the construction of suspension bridges to increase connectivity between regions, especially in areas with difficult geographical terrain.

"In 2026, the Ministry of Public Works will allocate a budget of IDR 630 billion to build 63 suspension bridges in various parts of Indonesia," said Dody as quoted from his written statement, Wednesday, July 23.

Dody assessed that suspension bridges are important to open connectivity between villages or sub-districts, such as making it easier for farmers to transport agricultural products to the market.

In addition to connecting economic activity, according to Dody, suspension bridges also help the public access public facilities, such as schools, markets and government offices in separate areas of rivers, ravines or hilly slopes.

"The determination of 63 locations for the construction of the 2026 suspension bridge will go through in-depth technical studies and field surveys, taking into account economic aspects, regional isolation levels, transportation accessibility and other technical aspects," he said.

Meanwhile, continued Dody, by 2025, the Ministry of Public Works is also completing the construction of 50 suspension bridges, some of which have been completed.

Including as many as 8 bridges in South Sulawesi Province, such as the Kanjero Suspension Bridge (68 meters) and the Poton Suspension Bridge (36 meters) in North Luwu Regency, Lamangiso Suspension Bridge (68 meters) and the Jauh Pandang Bridge (51 meters) in Wajo Regency and Kalimporo Suspension Bridge (51 meters).

Then, there is the Minasa Upa Suspension Bridge (102 meters), the Pattiro Fort Suspension Bridge (68 meters) and the Palambuta Suspension Bridge (Bululoe) (51 meters).

"The construction of the suspension bridge will continue to be a priority program of the Ministry of Public Works as a means of supporting national connectivity and the eradication of regional isolation in line with efforts to accelerate the development of central Indonesia," concluded Dody.
