Assistant Coach Of Indonesia U-23: Young Garuda Has The Potential To Win

JAKARTA - Assistant coach of the U-23 Indonesian national team, Simon Tahamata, appreciated the success of his foster children who qualified for the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup semifinals. In addition, he also believes that after arriving at this point, Garuda Muda has all the potential to win the title.

"Good job everyone (the players of the U-23 Indonesian national team). We are semifinalists of the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup. We have everything to be successful," Simon Tahamata wrote via his Instagram account quoted Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

Previously, the U-23 Indonesian national team managed to ensure itself as winners of Group A after holding Malaysia U-23 to a draw.

In the last match of the group phase which was held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Monday, July 21, 2025, the match ended in a draw with a score of 0-0.

With the addition of one point, Indonesia U-23 collected seven points from three matches and managed to become the top of Group A.

Despite appearing dominant throughout the match, Indonesia U-23 had difficulty breaking through Malaysia's solid defense. In the first half, Garuda Muda failed to score even though he continued to press.

Indonesia U-23's efforts to increase the aggressiveness of attacks in the second half did not succeed in producing goals until the long whistle sounded.

Before the match against Malaysia, Indonesia U-23 won a big 8-0 victory over Brunei Darussalam U-23 and beat the U-23 Philippines with a narrow score of 1-0.

Later, in the semifinals, Indonesia will face strong opponents, Thailand U-23, who won Group C.

The match will take place on July 25, 2025 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.
