AI Usage Trend: 72 Percent Of Teenagers In The US Have Tried Chatbots
JAKARTA The majority of teenagers in the US have tried a companion based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) at least once. The data shows that 72 percent of teenagers have interacted with chatbots.
This data comes from a recent study by Common Sense Media, a US nonprofit that focuses on the lives of children and families. Launching from TechCrunch, the chatbot included in this study is a chatbot that can interact personally.
Some of them are Character.AI, Grok, or chatbots with good language skills such as ChatGPT and Claude. The youth age range categorized in this study is 13 to 17 years.
Nearly three-quarters of respondents claimed to have used AI as a companion. In fact, 52 percent of them say that they still use chatbots regularly for various purposes.
Among the regular users, 13 percent of respondents took advantage of chatbots to chat every day, while 21 percent of them only interacted several times a week.
When compared to gender, 31 percent of men almost never use AI, while only 25 percent of girls do not use this technology. This data is taken from 1,060 teenagers in the April to May period this year.

The results of this study show that young people tend to be closer to AI. About 33 percent of respondents admitted that they used AI for social interaction needs, 30 percent for entertainment, and 18 percent for seeking advice.
Fortunately, the high use of AI does not affect the way teenagers make decisions. At the age of 15 to 17 years, they tend to less believe in AI advice.
In addition, 80 percent of teens using AI stated that they spend more time with friends than AI chatbots. Only 6 percent chose the opposite option.
