July 26 Will Be Designated As Indonesian Poem Day
JAKARTA - After a long plan, Indonesian Poem Day will be set on July 26 every year. This date was set because it coincided with the birth date of the famous poet Chairil Anwar in 1922.
The determination of Indonesian Poem Day was encouraged by a number of parties to the Indonesian government. However, in this determination, Indonesian Poem Day does not only belong to certain groups, but belongs to all Indonesian people.
"Please support my friends, this is not an easy struggle. Poem Day is back to how it used to be, lively, and after it was ratified it doesn't belong to the foundation anymore, but will belong to us together," said Chairman of the Indonesian Poem Day Foundation, Asrizal Nur, during a press conference Welcoming the Indonesian Poem Day Determination Procession, at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, on Monday, July 21, 2025.
The writer, nicknamed President of Indonesian Registrar, Sutardji Calzoum Bachri, said that the determination of the new Indonesian Poem Day was an effort to further eradicate poetry.

According to Sutardji, the determination not only made the warning of poetry more formal, but also a strong foundation for its implementation and celebration in various places.
"In order to be more formal, yes, the government needs to intervene to be more moved about Indonesian poetry," said Sutardji.
"Determination by the government to be able to facilitate it, appreciate it, and provide programs in schools. That is in a formal way, but in terms of meaning, yes, of course, it must involve the community," he continued.
Meanwhile, the process of determining Indonesian Poem Day will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Jakarta Theater Plaza, Taman Ismail Marzuki Complex, Jakarta. This event will also be the Award Night for Indonesian Poem Day 2025, carrying a friend "Puisi Born Never Dies".
The theme was carried by implying that poetry is always born and present in the midst of society, bringing the spirit of its poets who never die. This spirit continues to encourage and support the unity of the nation, strengthening culture, and development of Indonesian poetry.
