The Indonesian Ambassador Affirms Indonesia's Support For The Efforts Of The Cambodian Government To Eradicate Online Scams

JAKARTA - Indonesia supports the efforts of the Cambodian Government to eradicate online scams, with the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh ready to communicate and coordinate with related parties in the two countries.

This was conveyed by the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto when meeting with the Senior Minister and Head of the Secretariat Committee to Combat Online Scams (CCOS) Cambodia Chhay Sinarith on Monday.

Conveying his support for efforts to enforce the law of the Cambodian government, Ambassador Santo said transnational online fraud crimes require close cooperation among related countries.

"For this reason and in line with the spirit of 2023 ASEAN Leaders' Declaration on Combating Trafficking in Persons Caused by the Abuse of Technology, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh is ready to improve coordination and communication with relevant agencies in Cambodia and Indonesia," said Ambassador Santo, launching a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh on July 22.

In this meeting, the two discussed cooperation in dealing with online crime activities, as well as post-operative developments in the eradication held by the Cambodian Government last week.

Operations held simultaneously in 15 provinces in Cambodia since July 14 have succeeded in attracting 2,780 foreign nationals such as from China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, South Korea, Pakistan, including Indonesia where 339 Indonesian citizens were caught in operations in a number of provinces.

Meanwhile, Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith in a meeting with Ambassador Santo conveyed developments regarding the eradication operation carried out by the Cambodian Government.

"This operation is a direct implementation of Prime Minister Hun Manet's order on February 14, 2025 and is evidence of the commitment of the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in dealing with online fraud crimes which has become a priority issue for Cambodia and the region," he explained.

As a follow-up to this operation, the Cambodian authorities will carry out the process of investigating foreign nationals who are caught and investigating cases in each province that are different.

Cambodian authorities will legally process parties involved in various crimes related to online fraud, including money laundering, job vacancies and acts of violence.
