Belgian King Condemns Israeli Violations In Gaza, Considers Humanitarian Aib
JAKARTA - Belgian King Philippe called the violation in Gaza a "catch for humanity" in his speech ahead of a national day on Monday.
This speech is an unusual direct statement regarding the international affairs of a king who has traditionally avoided public politics.
"I also voice my support for all those who condemn serious humanitarian abuses in Gaza, where innocent people are dying from hunger and being killed by bombs while trapped in their area," he said while speaking at his palace in Brussels.
"The current situation has been going on for too long. This is a disgrace for all mankind. We support the United Nations Secretary-General's call to end this unbearable crisis immediately," he continued.
This is the first time Philippe has spoken so firmly and clearly about conflict in public. The Belgian federal government is more careful in criticizing the conflict in Gaza.
The role of kings in Belgium is limited to providing advice, support, and warnings to the government without making any political decisions.

Since then, Israeli forces have killed more than 59,000 people in Gaza, according to health officials there.
Most areas have been damaged and Israel has restricted food supplies and other supplies.
Israel denies its troops have committed violations in Gaza and says supply restrictions are needed to prevent aid from being diverted by militants.
