South Sumatra Police Arrest Former Police Carrying Firearms And Shabu

PALEMBANG - The South Sumatra Police (Sumsel) arrested one former police officer along with three colleagues suspected of carrying two homemade firearms and methamphetamine.

The Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Police, Kombes Nandang Mu'min Wijaya, said the four suspects each had the initials AP (police fire), TP, RP, and RG, all of whom were residents from Pagaralam.

"The arrests were made in the area of Jalan Mayor Santoso, IT II District, Palembang, after the team received reports from the public regarding suspicious activities", he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 21.

From the hands of the perpetrators, said Nandang, the police secured two short-barreled homemade firearms, two rounds of active ammunition, and several packages of methamphetamine ready for distribution.

Currently, the four suspects are still in the process of intensive examination to investigate the origins of the weapons and narcotics networks involved.

"This arrest is the result of a follow-up to public information. We are still developing whether they are involved in a larger network," said Nandang.

The perpetrators were charged with Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 regarding the possession of illegal firearms and Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
