Building Collision, Bangladeshi Military Plane Crashes In School Kills 19 People

JAKARTA - It was reported that 19 people died as a result of a Bangladeshi Air Force training plane crashing to the campus environment and schools in the capital Dhaka on Monday.

More than 50 people, including children and adults, were hospitalized for burns, doctors at the National Institute of Plastic Surgery and Burns reported by Reuters, Monday, July 21.

A training military plane crashed at Milestone Schools and Universities in the northern region of North Uttara.

"The Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training plane crashed in North Uttara. The plane took off at 13.06 (07.06 GMT)," the military statement said.

Post-accident video footage showed a large fire near the grass yard billowing thick smoke into the sky. While the crowd watched from a distance.

Firefighters sprayed water into the rubble of the destroyed plane, which appears to have hit the side of the building, damaged the iron lattice, and created a gaping hole in the structure.

"A third-grade student was taken to hospital in a state of death, and three others, aged 12, 14, and 40, were hospitalized," said Bidhan Sarker, head of the burn unit at the Hospital and Faculty of Medicine Dhaka, where several victims were being treated.

Video footage also shows people screaming and crying, while others try to strengthen them.

"When I picked up my kids and went to the gate, I realized something was coming from behind. I heard an explosion. When I looked back, I just saw fire and smoke," said Masud Pull, a teacher at the school.

Bangladesh's interim government chief, Muhammad Yunus, said necessary steps would be taken to investigate the cause of the accident and ensure all types of assistance.

The incident comes about a month after an Air India plane crashed in a medical college dormitory in India's Ahmedabad city, killing 241 of the 242 people on board including 19 people on land, marking the world's worst flight disaster in a decade.
