Yangwang U7 Marks 13 Million NEV BYD Production Unit
JAKARTA The new energy vehicle giant (NEV) from China, BYD has made history again by announcing the achievement of production of the 13 million new energy vehicles. This extraordinary achievement was achieved just eight months after they celebrated the production of the 10 million NEV.
For information, BYD's journey began in February 1995 with only about 20 employees focused on the battery business. Now, the company has grown to become one of the largest automotive manufacturers in China, with a total workforce of 968,872 people as of the end of 2024.
BYD officially entered the automotive industry in 2003 by acquiring Qinchuan in Xi'an. Since then, their growth in the NEV sector has been very rapid.
Then on May 19, 2021, BYD became the first Chinese automotive producer to reach the production milestone of 1 million NEV units.
The special vehicle that marks the 13th million milestone is the U7 sedan of their ultra luxury sub-brand, Yangwang. This announcement was made directly by the company through their official Weibo account today, Sunday (21/7).
With sales continuing to skyrocket, especially in the mass market, BYD is now increasingly serious about working on the premium segment.

Yangwang was launched on January 5, 2023, as a sub-brand targeting an ultra-luxury market with an average valuable vehicle of around 1 million yuan (approximately IDR 2.3 billion).
Meanwhile, the U7 sedan, which is BYD's 13 millionth NEV, was launched on March 27 with the option of BEV and PHEV. The U7 delivery itself has started since June 12.
Although still in the early stages, data compiled by CnEVPost, quoted Monday, July 21, shows that Yangwang managed to sell 205 units of vehicles in June, an increase of 47.48 percent on a monthly basis. Of these, 132 units are U7 models, while two other Yangwang models, U8 SUVs and U9 sports cars, sold 64 and 9 units, respectively.
The achievement of the 13 millionth production confirmed BYD's position as the dominant global player in the NEV industry, and their ambition to penetrate the ultra-luxury segment through Yangwang shows an aggressive and daring growth strategy.
