Meta Hijack Two More Important Figures From Apple's AI Team
JAKARTA - After recruiting one of Apple's main AI researchers with a fantastic salary package, Meta again withdrew two important members from the same team.
A week ago, the world of technology was shocked by the news that Meta managed to hijack the head of the Apple Foundation Models (AFM), Ruoming Pang, with a signature bonus worth 200 million US dollars. Now, Meta is back in action.
According to a Bloomberg report, Meta has also recruited two other important figures from AFM, namely Mark Lee and Tom Gunter. The two will join Meta's Super Intelligence Labs (MSL) team.
Mark Lee is known as Pang's first signing at Apple, while Tom Gunter is a well-known engineer who has served at Apple for eight years. Gunter left Apple at the end of last June.
Meta Push Towards AI Domination
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg publicly expressed his readiness to spend hundreds of billions of dollars to build an AI data center. So it's no wonder he wants to fill the MSL team with the best talent he can buy.

Apple is not the only source of Meta recruitment. The company is actively recruiting massively, targeting top AI experts from across the industry.
Even OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that several of his team members were also approached by Meta, with the reported signing bonus offer reaching up to 100 million US dollars.
The MSL Meta team is now also reinforced by former head GitHub Nat Friedman, co-founder of Scale AI Alexandr Wang, and AI startup founder Daniel Gross.
This move confirms Meta's ambition to become a leader in the future artificial intelligence race.
