Indonesian Foreign Minister Appreciates Myanmar Authority For Amnesty For Indonesian Citizens Of AP Sentenced To Seven Years In Prison
JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Sugiono and the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciate the Myanmar Authority for the amnesty given to Indonesian citizens who were sentenced in Myanmar.
In a statement on Sunday, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Indonesian citizen with the initials AP received forgiveness from the State Administration Council of Myanmar.
"The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the ranks of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed their appreciation to the Myanmar authorities for granting amnesty to AP and also to various parties who have helped the process of handling this case from the start," said spokesman for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rolliansyah "Roy" Soemirat quoting the statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sunday, July 20.
Indonesian citizens who are also APP celebrations were arrested by the Myanmar authorities on December 20, 2024. He was accused of illegally entering Myanmar territory and then held a meeting with armed groups categorized as banned organizations by local authorities.
AP was then charged with violating the Anti-Terrorism Act, the 1947 Immigration Act, and Section 17(2) of the Unlawful AssociationsAct.
After the seven-year prison sentence with permanent legal force (inkracht), according to coordination with the family of AP, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon, have submitted a diplomatic note to the Myanmar authorities to ask the AP for amnesty.
Good news came from the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after a diplomatic note dated July 16, 2025 addressed to the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon informed that the amnesty to AP had been approved by the State Administration Council of Myanmar.
On Saturday 19 July, the deportation process for AP was carried out. The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon also accompanied him when AP left Myanmar by flight to Bangkok.
"Currently AP is transiting in Bangkok," said Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha to VOI.id via text message Sunday night.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon have handled and accompanied AP cases since AP was detained by Myanmar on December 20, 2024.
Since the beginning of the arrest, the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon has carried out various protective measures, including sending diplomatic notes, accessing consular and direct assistance during the examination, ensuring the defense of lawyers and facilitating communication between AP and his family.
