Trump: 10 Hostages Soon To Be Freed From Gaza

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said ten hostages would soon be released from Gaza. Currently negotiations of the ceasefire to end the war are still ongoing.

Trump made the statement during a dinner with lawmakers at the White House without providing additional details.

Israeli and Hamas negotiators have participated in the final round of ceasefire negotiations in Doha since July 6, discussing a US-backed 60-day ceasefire proposal.

"We have managed to get most of the hostages back home. 10 more hostages will arrive soon, and we hope this is over soon," Trump said.

Trump has predicted for weeks that a ceasefire and a deal to release hostages will soon be reached, but the deal has proven difficult to reach.

A spokesman for Hamas' armed wing, the Palestinian militant group that controls Gaza, on Friday said the group supported a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza war, but could again insist on a complete package if the deal was not reached in ongoing negotiations.

The ceasefire proposal calls for the 10 hostages killed in Gaza to be repatriated along with the bodies of 18 other hostages, who will be repatriated for 60 days. In return, Israel will release a number of Palestinians detained.

Israeli military operations in Gaza have killed more than 58,600 Palestinians, according to Gaza's health authorities.

Nearly 1,650 Israelis and foreign nationals have died as a result of the conflict, including 1,200 people killed in the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel, according to Israeli tallies.
