ITDC: Tanjung Aan Mandalika Development To Increase The Number Of Tourists

JAKARTA - Injourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) stated that the arrangement and development in the Tanjung Aan area, the eastern zone of the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) to increase tourist visits in the local area.

"The process of emptying and structuring the Tanjung Aan area is part of a strategy to improve the quality of tourism destinations, not as a form of disruption to the flow of tourist visits," said ITDC Operations Director Troy Warvou in Central Lombok, quoted by Antara, Saturday, July 19.

He said this activity is an implementation of a destination management approach that emphasizes the importance of spatial order, increasing landscape aesthetics and strengthening the carrying capacity of destinations to create a safe, comfortable, and classy tourism experience.

Thus, instead of having a negative impact, this area arrangement activity is actually a form of long-term social and spatial investment that supports quality tourism growth.

"This development is to strengthen tourist perceptions of The Mandalika area as a premium destination," he said.

"The arrangement of the destination also opens up new opportunities for local communities in a more just governance system," he said.

He said the ITDC implemented a strategy for managing the Mandalika SEZ area, which was systematically designed to ensure that local communities were not only passive beneficiaries, but also played an active role in the development process.

Programs such as the InJourney Hospitality House and training collaboration with the Lombok Poltekpar through edukarsa are instruments for strengthening the capacity of local human resources in the fields of hospitality, tourism, and entrepreneurship.

"In the alternative economic sector, ITDC together with Mataram University run an Integrated Farming System that not only encourages local food security, but also opens a new route for diversifying people's income in buffer villages," he said.

In the child education sector, Mandalika Child Learning Center acts as a vehicle for literacy and character development in the region.

In addition, the provision of legal business spaces at amenity core or core facilities for MSMEs and community involvement in international events is part of an inclusive and sustainable local economic governance policy.

"We are not only developing the area physically, but also building a local social and economic structure through the framework of empowerment-based participatory development," he said.

ITDC noted that the number of tourists visiting the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) reached 1,241,742 people during 2024.

This tourist visit in Mandalika increased by 51.4 percent compared to 2023 which reached 827,047 people.
