The U-23 Indonesian National Team Is Not Certain, Coached By Gerald Vanenburg At The 2025 SEA Games

JAKARTA - Gerald Vanenburg has not been confirmed to be able to escort the U-23 Indonesian national team when appearing at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games by the end of this year.

This was stated by the Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, on the grounds that currently there has been no decision from PSSI, NOC Indonesia, and Kemenpora. Regarding this, all three will be discussed in one forum.

"Therefore, this morning I also came to the NOC Indonesia meeting, there was an Extraordinary Congress, where I introduced Chef de Mission for the 2025 SEA Games."

"There, I have time to communicate with Pak Okto (King Sapta Oktohari) and Chef de Mission for what kind of rules will apply at the 2025 SEA Games," said Erick Thohir in a statement in Jakarta quoted on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Previously, Menpora Dito Ariotedjo said that the Indonesian U-23 national team coach who will appear at the 2025 SEA Games will be determined by the federation, in this case PSSI.

Even though there has been a signal from the government, PSSI does not want to be careless. Everything will be communicated properly while looking at the situation and conditions, namely Vanenburg's achievement.

Currently Vanenburg is guarding Garuda Muda in the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup. If the Dutch coach brings Indonesia U-23 to win, he will be chosen to be bigger.

"That's why, when asked if there was a decision, we had to sit down together. CdM was just elected, yes, we didn't want to go ahead."

"However, did PSSI not prepare his team? We prepared this with the host of the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup. One of them is to measure what the teams that play in the 2025 SEA Games will look like," said the PSSI chairman.
