Virtuos Game Developer Global Layoffs, Employees In Asia And Europe Affected

JAKARTA - The global game developer, Virtuos, announced that it has cut about 7% of its workforce globally, as a form of adjustment to the dynamics of the growing game industry.

Of the total employees affected in this change, it covers 200 positions in Asia and 70 positions in Europe including less than 10 positions in France, where the core team of developer Oblivion Remastered is located.

"As game development is increasingly complex, we are adjusting our global footprint and capability to strengthen development services," the company wrote in an announcement on its official website.

This restructuring is carried out to strengthen the joint development services (co-development) offered by Virtuos, ranging from comprehensive game engineering to creative art production and high technology-based live services.

This move also goes hand in hand with the company's investment in specialist capabilities and expansion in strategic areas. In the last 12 months, Virtuos has acquired a number of studios such as Beyond-FX, Pipeworks, and Ukraine in North America, as well as Third Kind Games and Abstraction in Europe.

This acquisition strengthens Virtuos' capabilities in VFX, design, Unreal Engine programming, and creative development.

It is necessary to further align the location of our team with the location of the client to support increasingly iterative creative development properties. That's why the current reorganization has more impact on our team in Asia," explained the company.

Despite undergoing a major reorganization, Virtuos affirms its commitment to the ongoing projects, including the Oblivion Remastered, Cyberpunk 2077, and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater.

The company also insists that it will continue to invest in global shipping, technical excellence, and creative collaboration.

"We will continue to invest in global shipping capabilities, technical excellence, and creative collaboration to ensure Virtuos remains the preferred partner for leading game creators in the world," the company concluded.
