Japan Open 2025: Putri KW Bend Wang Zhi Yi
JAKARTA - Putri Kusuma Wardani lifted the suitcase from the quarter-finals of the Japan Open 2025. He returned home after losing to the second seed from China, Wang Zhi Yi.
Putri failed to maintain Indonesia's women's singles hope after she went through a three-game match ending 22-20, 17-21, and 16-21 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Friday, July 18, 2025.
"Dari konsistensi permainan saya yang belum sempurna, saya kurang konsisten dalam menggunakan teknik dan strategi," kata Putri setelah pertandingan.
This latest defeat extends Putri's bad record against the world number two badminton player. In total, from six of their meetings, Putri was recorded as having never won.
Prior to Japan, the Tangerang-born badminton player lost three times at the junior level in 2018, then at the Denmark Open 2024, and the Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) in April 2025.

"I have met almost all of China's women's singles mainstays and only won in the first game. So, there are still things that need to be added, especially focusing on the final points of the deciding game," said Putri.
The women's defeat automatically made the Indonesian women's singles representative in the tournament run out. Previously, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung had returned early in the first round.
Indonesia still has two representatives who have not played the quarter-finals of the Japan Open 2025. Both are Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Lanny Tria Mayasari/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
Putri will next appear at the 2025 China Open next week. In the temporary list on the BWF website, he will go down with Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
