Komdigi Prepares Presidential Decree For More Binding AI Regulations

JAKARTA - After Circular (SE), the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs will make more binding regulations regarding AI in the form of Presidential Regulations (Perpres) to strengthen cross-sectoral governance.

Not only that, the Deputy Minister of Communication and Trade, Nezar Patria, also stated that they are currently designing roadmaps and AI utilization governance that are inclusive and multi-sector.

There will be two products, namely roadmaps and AI regulations. Then Presidential Regulations that can apply in all institutions. So, by doing that, we strengthen our regulations on AI," said Nezar in his official broadcast.

Nezar stated that the preparation of this roadmap draft involved various stakeholders and was also supported by collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and consultants from the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

"We are currently compiling a national roadmap for AI involving quadhelix collaboration, from business and industrial actors, academics, civil society groups and the government," he explained.

Later, this AI roadmap will serve as a principlel guide for relevant ministries and institutions to adopt AI technology in various sectors, such as transportation, education, health, and financial services.

The government hopes that this roadmap and AI Presidential Regulation will become the basis for the development of ethical, adaptive, and responsive AIs for global dynamics.

These two documents are expected to maintain a balance between innovation and public protection, as well as be a reference in building a national AI ecosystem that is safe, resilient, and highly competitive.
