Rodrigo De Paul Will Join Inter Miami With Loan Status From Atletico Madrid
JAKARTA - Rodrigo De Paul will join Inter Miami from Atletico Madrid on loan plus a permanent transfer option.
According to ESPN, the Argentine midfielder will arrive at the Major League Soccer (MLS) club on a short-term contract and is likely to sign a multi-year contract.
One of the owners of Inter Miami, Jorge Mas, arrived in Madrid earlier this month to start negotiations between the two sides.
De Paul's arrival is part of a larger Inter Miami vision to expand the club's depth and quality, both on and off the pitch.
The midfielder has now left Atletico Madrid with a one-year contract remaining, making him a free agent in June 2026.

De Paul will not initially become one of Inter Miami's core players because three players on the Designated Player list in the team are already filled by Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets.
If the reserve player's position is available at the end of his loan period, Inter Miami can only sign De Paul on a bigger contract.
The option is open considering Mas told ESPN in June 2025 that talks to extend Busquets' contract with Inter Miami haven't started yet, but the door remains open to the player.
If Busquets does not extend his tenure in Miami, De Paul can be included in the Designated Player list at the end of his loan period.
The slot can also be available if Lionel Messi leaves. It's just that, the possibility is small.
You see, several sources told ESPN that contract negotiations between the Argentine star and the club are still ongoing. Both parties are also interested in continuing relations on the ground after 2025.
The news of De Paul's arrival came after Inter Miami participated in the 2025 Club World Cup, where they finished in second place in the group stage, before losing to tournament runner-up Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16.
Inter Miami has been in action again at MLS since the defeat at the 2025 Club World Cup and will participate in the League Cup (MLS Cup) on 30 July 2025.
De Paul is part of the Argentine team that won the 2022 World Cup and Copa America in 2021 and 2024.
He moved to the Spanish capital in July 2021 from Serie A club Udinese, with a transfer value of 35 million euros and has made 187 appearances during that period, scoring 14 goals and 26 assists.
