Revoking Of Teeth Leads To Vision Disorders, Komnas HAM Intervenes Allegations Of Malpractice In Pariaman
The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Representative of West Sumatra intervened to investigate the alleged embezzling of teeth experienced by a resident in Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra, which led to visual impairment.
"We have received a report from the victim's attorney. We are currently investigating and digging up information from related parties," said Head of Komnas HAM West Sumatra, Sultanul Arifin in Padang, Antara, Thursday, July 17.
The case began with the removal of teeth by the victim at a clinic in Pariaman City. However, shortly after the medical action, the victim actually experienced worsening visual impairments.
The victim was then referred repeatedly to a number of health facilities, ranging from hospitals in Pariaman City, RSUP M. Djamil Padang, to hospitals in Pekanbaru City. From the results of the examination, the victim is said to have suffered a brain hemorrhage which has a direct impact on his vision function.
Komnas HAM is also asking for clarification from the police, especially regarding the issuance of an Investigation Termination Order (SP2 Lidik) by the Pariaman City Police for the case.
"LBH Padang said that the police issued SP2 Lidik because they thought there were not enough evidence to proceed to the investigation stage," said Sultanul.
However, according to Sultanul, Komnas HAM will summon and ask for further information from clinics, hospitals, medical officers, to police investigators. This step is to ensure transparency of the legal process and ensure that no victim's rights are neglected.
"We want to make sure whether the medical procedure has been carried out properly and how the victim can suffer a brain injury after the action of removing teeth. This must be explained in its entirety," he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of LBH Padang, Diki Rafiqi, confirmed that his party was the victim's attorney. LBH Padang has reported this case to Komnas HAM and the West Sumatra Police, and asked for a special case title.
"In the previous case at the Pariaman Police, we found irregularities. The victim was asked to leave the room while the doctor suspected of having malpractice remained indoors," said Diki.

His party suspected that the unnatural procedure contributed to the termination of the case investigation. "The victim just wants justice. We ask for a re-case title so that this legal process is truly transparent," said Diki.
