Japan Open 2025: Alwi Farhan Loses, Men's Singles Run Out
JAKARTA Indonesian men's singles in the 2025 Japan event were confirmed to be over after Alwi Farhan was eliminated in the second round against Alex Lanier from France.
Alwi, who is the 2023 junior world champion, surrendered in the hands of the eighth seed with the final scores 21-14, 15-21, and 18-21 on Thursday, July 17, 2025, afternoon WIB.
"Today the opponent played better than me. I have to work harder, there is still a lot to improve and improve," said Alwi after the match.
Alwi actually performed well in the first game and was able to put up a fight. Both chased numbers up to 14-14, then Alwi managed to score seven points to win.
In the second game, Alwi also had a chance to lead with an 8-5 advantage, but Alex then scored five points in a row and he was not overtaken anymore. The dominance continued into the last game.

"In the second and third games both tried to change the strategy, but I was hesitant to apply it. Meanwhile, Alex was more able to enter into the desired pattern. I could less fight myself," said Alwi.
This result is Alex's revenge against Alwi. In the previous competitive clash at the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championship 2023, Alex gave up two sets.
"Playing compared to the first meeting in junior and then more or less the same, only now that he is more mature. Alex has a good muscle," said Alex.
Indonesia has sent a total of three men's singles to this Super 750 BWF level event. The other two are Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie.
However, the two names were already eliminated in the first half. Ginting lost to Kodai Naraoka, while Jonathan was beaten by Kenta Nishimoto.
