60 Malut Poor People Get Free Legal Aid, Regional Office Asks Those Who Need Closest PBH Contacts

JAKARTA - The Regional Office (Kanwil) of the Ministry of Law (Kemenkum) of North Maluku (Malut) stated that as many as 60 poor people received free legal assistance as of July 16, 2025.

"The provision of free legal assistance is due to the cooperation of the legal aid organization (PBH) together," said Head of the Regional Office of the North Maluku Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Budi Argap Situngkir in his statement in Ternate, Thursday, quoted by Antara.

The Ministry of Law and Human Rights of North Maluku has signed a cooperation agreement with 13 PBHs in North Maluku in providing free legal assistance to the public.

"The provision of free legal assistance is a mandate from Law Number 16 of 2011 concerning Legal Aid, as an effort by the state to guarantee the constitutional rights of everyone to obtain recognition, guarantee, protection, and legal certainty as well as equal treatment before the law," said Argap Situngkir.

The provision of free legal assistance is given to 50 litigation legal assistance, and 10 non-litigations.

This provision is important considering that not all justice/community seekers are able to get legal assistance services. Therefore, the synergy between PBH and the North Maluku Ministry of Law and Human Rights is an effort to provide access to justice for the underprivileged.

Argap Situngkir invites people who want to get free legal assistance services to contact the nearest PBH organization. However, if it is constrained, you can contact the Regional Office of the North Maluku Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Ternate.

He said the provision of free legal assistance was carried out through the collaboration between the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and North Maluku with accredited legal aid providers (PBH).

"The North Maluku Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office is collaborating with 13 legal aid providers (OBH) that have been accredited and spread across regencies/cities in North Maluku to provide free legal assistance for underprivileged residents," said Argap Situngkir.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Division of Legislation and Legal Development Regulation (P3H), Zulfahmi added, underprivileged residents can contact the PBH organization in North Maluku which has collaborated with the North Maluku Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
