Held At The End Of July, GBN 2025 Invites The Young Generation To Preserve Batik
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Batik Foundation (YBI) officially announced the implementation of the 2025 Nusantara Batik Title (GBN) which will take place from July 30 to August 3, 2025 at Pasaraya Blok M, South Jakarta.
Carrying the theme "Bangga Berbatik", this event is open to the public and a forum for appreciation and promotion of the wealth of Indonesian batik to all levels of society, especially the younger generation.
"GBN 2025 not only celebrates legacy, but also as part of today's dynamic, meaningful and preserved lifestyle," said GBN 2025 Chief Executive Gita Ratna Gilangkencana at a press conference for the 2025 Nusantara Batik Title (GBN) in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 16.
This year, GBN highlighted the Merahwit Batik from Cirebon, West Java, a batik technique known as the fine line pattern and high level of accuracy.
This technique was officially recognized through the determination of Geographical Indications (IG) on November 4, 2024. This highlight is in line with YBI's mission to preserve, protect and promote batik as a living and growing Indonesian cultural identity.
As a biennial event, GBN 2025 comes with the concept of exhibition and interactive, immersive and inclusive performances. The main support from Astra as a sponsor strengthens the synergy between cultural actors and the private sector in maintaining the continuity of Indonesia's legacy.
Later, the GBN 2025 event will be officially opened by the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita. The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) also presents the Industrial Festival, which introduces the industrial sector to the younger generation as well as expands insights regarding the potential of a culture-based creative economy.

The national batik industry is also reflected in the increase in export performance. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the value of Indonesian batik exports reached 7.63 million US dollars to the first quarter of 2025, up to 76.2 percent compared to the same period the previous year which was recorded at 4.33 million US dollars.
This figure also strengthens optimism that Indonesian batik is increasingly in demand in the global market.
A total of more than 200 booths will enliven the 2025 GBN, featuring batik MSME players from various regions and culinary delights typical of the archipelago. Not only exhibitions, events also present talk shows, workshops and ready-to-use batik clothing parades (ready to wear) that combine traditional elements and contemporary designs.
Visitors can also experience a unique experience through immersive tunnel, a multimedia installation that describes creative processes, symbolic values and interactive visual transformation of batik.
