Floods Soak 22 Villages And Damage To Infrastructure In Aceh Jaya

BANDA ACEH - The Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) reported that 22 villages in five sub-districts in Aceh Jaya Regency were flooded due to high-intensity rain.

"Rain with moderate to high intensity has caused river water to overflow, causing it to inundate residential areas and community housing," said the Head of the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA), Teuku Nara Setia in a statement in Banda Aceh, Antara, Wednesday, July 16.

Based on a report from the Pusdalops PB BPBK Aceh Jaya, floods began to occur at around 22.30 WIB. The affected sub-districts include Krueng Sabee (5 villages), Panga (7 villages), Setia Bakti (3 villages), Darul Hikmah (6) and Teunom (1 village, namely Ambang Village).

Floods also damaged infrastructure such as river embankments. 20 meters of damage was recorded in Setia Bakti District and 50 meters in Teunom.

As of Wednesday afternoon, officers recorded as many as 15 families (KK) or 33 affected people in Setia Bakti District. Data collection is still ongoing in four other sub-districts.

"The Aceh Jaya BPBK team is already at the location to collect data, documentation, reporting, and distribute emergency response assistance," said Teuku Nara Setia.

Meanwhile, the Aceh BMKG issued an early warning of the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds for a number of areas in Aceh for the next two days, July 15, 2025.

BMKG asks the public to be aware of the potential for hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, landslides, and strong winds.

“Masyarakat yang tinggal di lereng pegunungan atau dekat aliran sungai diminta segera mengungsi bila hujan deras turun terus-menerus dan awan hitam mulai terlihat di daerah hulu,” imbau BMKG.
