Furious With Extortion Of PPSU Recruitment, Rano Karno Makes Sure The Perpetrators Are Acted

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno was furious with the emergence of illegal levies (extortion) in the recruitment process for public infrastructure and facilities (PPSU) officers which was taking place at the village level.

Therefore, Rano emphasized that the DKI Jakarta Inspectorate would investigate cases of extortion that occurred in the process of recruiting PPSU and taking action against the perpetrators involved.

"Yes, we will (search for extortionists). It must be eradicated. We can't accept that. So, just take action immediately," said Rano at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, July 16.

This extortion case was in the spotlight after it was revealed by a member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD based on residents' complaints. Actually, Rano was also aware of an unofficial levy that had entered the personal pockets of these individuals.

"Not a guess. Yes, it can't be covered up, it exists," he said.

It is undeniable, from the beginning he was a candidate for Deputy Governor of DKI during the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections, Rano was aware that fraudulent acts in the recruitment process for workers within the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government had also occurred. This is what worries him.

"From the start, maybe from our campaign, we have warned that there is a PPSU that pays tens of millions. Imagine," he said.

Previously, a member of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Ali Lubis admitted that he received complaints from residents regarding the existence of extortion in the process of recruiting PPSU officers which is now being opened by the DKI Provincial Government. The case is in Cipinang Muara Village.

This was revealed in his interruption during a plenary meeting of the submission of the Draft Regional Regulation on Amendments to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Budget for Fiscal Year 2025 which was attended by Rano Karno.

"Yesterday, I had an information, when I recruited PJLP or PPSU yesterday, I received information from the elements under carrying out extortion, Mr. Deputy Governor," said Ali at the DKI Jakarta DPRD building.

Ali urged the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government, especially the DKI Jakarta Inspectorate, to immediately investigate who the perpetrators of PPSU recruitment extortion and give punishment in accordance with applicable regulations.

This is because the involvement of individuals who extort residents in order to get a job is very detrimental. This also contradicts the claim of the Governor of DKI Jakarta that the PPSU recruitment is transparent.

"We are committing wrongdoing, this is the same as the practice of extortion against the poor. Already in the work is difficult, want to come to work being blackmailed with extortion mode. Please, the Deputy Governor, and the ranks of the provincial government, through the Inspectorate, inspect the field, check these elements. Because this is detrimental to the people of Jakarta," he said.
