Large-Scale Drug Smuggling On Jordan-Syria Border Thwarted
JAKARTA - Jordanian officials thwarted a drug smuggling attempt on the northeastern border of their country with Syria on Tuesday, July 15 local time.
Citing ArabNews, Tuesday, July 15, this smuggling was thwarted by armed forces from Eastern Command covering units from Ar-Ramtha and Mafraq.
The two units coordinated with the Anti-narcotics Department to guard Jordan's border with Syria, as well as other neighbors in the nearest region, Iraq.
Petra news agency reported that the operation began with a search at the scene of the incident which then confiscated a large number of drugs.
Meanwhile, a gang of smugglers who were at the location were forced to withdraw into Syrian territory after armed forces patrols took action.
Last week, Jordanian anti-narcotic authorities also thwarted narcotics smuggling using a drone across the country's western border.
