BRI Records The Largest Sustainable Finance Portfolio In Indonesia Worth IDR 796 Trillion

JAKARTA PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI) reported that the sustainable financing portfolio had reached IDR 796 trillion by the end of the first quarter of 2025. This amount is equivalent to 64.16 percent of BRI's total financing portfolio.

This portfolio consists of social loans that reach IDR 700.6 trillion, mainly distributed to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) throughout Indonesia, green or green loans financing of IDR 89.9 trillion which is channeled to the Environmentally Involved Business Activities (KUBL) sector, as well as investments in ESG-based corporate bonds worth IDR 5.5 trillion.

BRI President Director, Hery Gunardi explained that the ESG principle has been applied in every aspect of BRI's business, starting from policy formulation to implementation in all operational lines. Each policy was prepared taking into account the balance between business potential and its impact on social and environmental aspects.

This approach is part of BRI's long-term strategic direction in building a resilient and sustainable business. Through the distribution of sustainable financing, BRI not only creates economic value and has a financial impact on customers, but also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," said Hery, Tuesday, July 15.

He added that BRI's support for SDGs was realized through the integration of the sustainability principle in the Company's financing strategy and business model. This focus is directed at expanding inclusive financial access, transitioning to clean energy, and strengthening the economic capacity of the community through financing that encourages productivity and job creation.

BRI's real commitment to sustainability practices is reflected in a significant increase in various international ESG rating rankings. Based on Sustainalytics' assessment, BRI managed to reduce the ESG risk score from 20.9 with the Medium Risk category in 2021 to 17.8 with the Low Risk category in 2024.

Meanwhile, MSCI consistently ranked A from 2022 to 2024. In the 2024 ESG S&P Global assessment, BRI recorded an increase in ESG score to 75 with a position in the 95th percentile position, and was named a member of the 2024 Sustainability Yearbook Member, a recognition of sustainable financial practices that excel in the global banking sector.
