'Please Sue Us,' Batang Regent Responds To Dispute Of Sigandu Beach Cafe

The Batang Regency Government, Central Java, has invited parties who object to the demolition of cafes and karaoke places in the Sigandu Beach area to take legal action.

"If there are parties who object to the control carried out by the Batang Regency Government, then go ahead if they will file a lawsuit," said Batang Regent Faiz Kurniawan in Batang, Antara, Tuesday, July 15.

According to Faiz, local governments respect the legal steps to be taken, because it is the right of every citizen.

"Please convey it because it is a right. If you feel that something is not right from the process of enforcing the regional and legal regulations, the judge will later prove which ones are in accordance with the rules," he said.

He emphasized that he was ready to face the legal process if the lawsuit was filed, and even stated that he would go directly to the court. "What is clear, I am ready to handle the matter myself if there is a lawsuit," said Faiz.

Previously, the demolition of a number of cafes and karaoke venues was carried out by a joint team consisting of the TNI, Polri, and Satpol PP on Wednesday, July 9. The buildings were deemed to have violated Regional Regulation Number 13 of 2019 concerning Spatial Planning, because they were on the beach and did not have official permits.

Acting Head of the Batang Regency Civil Service Police Unit, Haryono, said that the demolition step was the last stage after persuasive efforts were ignored.

"Previously we had carried out several stages according to the SOP. We have conveyed socialization and warnings three times, but they were ignored," said Haryono.

On the other hand, the attorney for the owner of the Bintang Cafe, Damirin, stated that he would file a lawsuit as a form of resistance to the demolition which was considered unilateral and detrimental to his client.

"Demi hukum, kami akan melakukan upaya perlawanan hukum atas ketidakadilan ini," katanya.

"By law, we will take legal action against this injustice," he said.
