IDX Reveals 90 Percent Of Carbon Buyers Are Still Dominated By Domestic Actors

JAKARTA PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX) revealed that the majority of carbon buyers through the Indonesian Carbon Exchange (IDXCarbon) are still dominated by domestic actors.

IDX Development Director Jeffrey Hendrik explained that currently around 90 percent of carbon buyers come from within the country. This is because international carbon trade only opened in January 2025.

"It will still take time until this international carbon unit can be understood by prospective buyers from outside. However, we continue to coordinate with OJK and KLH in terms of international marketing," told VOI, Tuesday, July 15.

He also emphasized that the data of companies that make purchases through IDX Carbon is confidential, as is transactions in other capital markets.

However, beneficiary data from carbon credit that has been retired can be accessed openly through the National Climate Change Control Registribution System (SRN-PPI), which lists several company names from various sectors.

Jeffrey is optimistic that the target of 150 Jasa Exchange users will be achieved in 2025 because his party has prepared a series of activities by the end of this year, including holding a Net Zero Incubator program again for 2025.

In addition, he said the IDX will also hold a series of educational and socialization roadshows offline to various regions in the country, as well as organize online activities to reach the international market.

"We will again hold a Net Zero Incubator for 2025. We also have a series of domestic offline roadshows to several regions for education and socialization. Online events are also available to attract international markets," he said.

For information since it was officially launched on September 26, 2023 to July 11, 2025, IDX Carbon has recorded a total transaction volume of 1,599,326 tons of CO2e, with a trade value of IDR 77.95 billion.

As for this amount, as many as 980,475 tons of CO2e have been registered or used as compensation for emissions.

In addition, to date, IDX Carbon has involved 113 service users and recorded a total of 3,054,454 tons of CO2e Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Certificate (SPE-GHG), or about 97 percent of the total units registered in the National Registribution System for Climate Change Control (SRN-PPI).

Then, as many as eight projects have been officially registered with IDX Carbon, covering strategic sectors such as renewable energy, waste management, and utilizing palm oil mill liquid waste (Palm Oil Mill Effluent/POME) for biogas production.
