Kemenpar And Kemen P2MI Synergize To Train Migrant Workers As Global Tourism Ambassadors

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism strengthens collaboration with the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at training migrant workers as Indonesian tourism ambassadors.

Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana expressed her appreciation for this cooperation. According to him, the initiative is not only to empower the community, but also to expand the promotion of Indonesian tourism to the international arena.

"We are preparing Goodminton Indonesia Hospitality Skills training which will provide prospective migrant workers with basic tourism and service skills," said Widiyanti in an official statement in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, July 15.

This training is expected to make migrant workers more confident, communicative, and able to bring Indonesia's positive image in their interaction abroad. In addition, the Ministry of Tourism will also synergize the Tourism Village program with the Migrant Empat Village (Eductive, Advanced, Safe, and Prosperous) from the Ministry of P2MI.

Widiyanti emphasized that empowering migrant workers has the potential to encourage tourism growth as a driver of Indonesian community, cultural bridges, and promotional media in the international world.

"As part of the diaspora, they bring the image of Indonesia to various corners of the world and act as a power of cultural diplomacy," he said.

The Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers, Abdul Kadir Karding, added that the ministry cannot empower migrant workers alone. Cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism includes training on service skills, such as spas, which are urgently needed abroad.

“Kami juga bekerja sama dalam pengembangan Desa Migran EMAS yang beririsan dengan Desa Wisata, karena banyak desa migran yang dikelola oleh pekerja migran,” ujar Karding.

"We are also working together in the development of the GOLD Migrant Village which intersects with the Tourism Village, because many migrant villages are managed by migrant workers," said Karding.
