Becoming The First Governor Of DKI To Attend The UN Forum Directly, Pramono: Jakarta Must Advance In Class

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung attended the opening session of the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) at the United Nations (UN) headquarters, New York, Monday local time.

Pramono became the first governor of DKI to attend the forum held by the UN Headquarters and was directly involved in the formulation of the global level sustainable development agenda.

In the forum, Pramono conveyed the importance of collaboration between cities and countries in responding to urbanization issues, climate crises, and social disparities.

"Jakarta is no longer just an administrative capital, but must advance to class as a global city, so it is important for us to be active in global diplomacy. Currently, Jakarta is implementing a number of important initiatives, including a clean energy transition, digitizing public services, and strengthening a community-based green economy," Pramono was quoted as saying.

Pramono assessed that Jakarta's participation in the UN headquarters was in line with the Jakarta initiative as an ASEAN Hub which pushed Jakarta's position as the center of cooperation and innovation in the ASEAN region.

"This effort confirms the role of Jakarta diplomacy towards a global, resilient and adaptive city," he said.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arrmanatha Nasir, who was also present at the forum, assessed the participation of Indonesia's regional head in the HLPF as concrete evidence that Indonesian diplomacy is not only run by the central government.

HLPF 2025 takes place on July 14 with the theme "Advancing Sustainable, Inclusive and Evidence-Based Solutions for the 2030 Agenda with No One Left Behind".

A total of 37 countries are scheduled to deliver the Voluntary National Review (VNRs), including Indonesia, which will explain the achievements, challenges, and good practices in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in various sectors and levels of government.

This forum is a strategic stage for world leaders, diplomats, and regional heads of government to discuss the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global challenges that are being faced.
