Strong Wind Hits Simeulue Aceh Damaged Home, BPBD Deploys Handling Team

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) deployed a team to deal with victims of strong winds that caused a number of houses to be damaged by fallen trees in Simeulue Regency, Aceh Province.

Head of BPBD Simeulue Regency, Zulfadli, said that strong winds that occurred in the last two days caused trees to fall and hit people's homes in several villages.

"The report we received was that three houses were hit by fallen trees due to strong winds. In addition, one fire station was also damaged by fallen trees. We deployed a team to help the victims of the strong winds," he said in Simeulue, Aceh, Tuesday, July 15, which was confiscated by Antara.

Zulfadli said that the house was damaged by fallen trees due to strong winds, namely in Luan Surip Village and Situfa Kaya Village, Central Simeulue District, each one house.

"Another house in Sua-sua Village, Central Teupah District. There were no casualties in the strong wind disaster. The loss is estimated at millions of rupiah, because the condition of the house was heavily damaged," he said.

He said the team was working to clean up fallen tree trunks on people's homes and help repair the two buildings damaged by the natural disaster.

Zulfadli appealed to the public to be aware of extreme weather, such as strong winds accompanied by heavy rains that have the potential to cause natural disasters in the next few days.

"We received information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), there is the potential for heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in several areas in Simeulue Regency," said Zulfadli.

Simeulue Regency is the outermost archipelago region in Aceh Province. Simeulue Island is located in the Indian Ocean, which is about 180 nautical miles from the west coast of Sumatra Island.

Simeulue Regency has been a expansion of West Aceh Regency since 1999. Simeulue Regency has 10 sub-districts with 138 gampongs or villages inhabited by around 94 thousand people.
