King Charles Will Host Trump In England September

JAKARTA - Buckingham Palace announced Britain's King Charles will host US President Donald Trump in September on his second unprecedented state visit to Britain.

The visit will take place from September 17 to 19.

"The His Excellency Raja will host President and Mrs. Trump at Windsor Castle," the palace said in a statement, saying further details would be announced in due course.

Last month, Trump said he agreed to meet Charles after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer submitted a handwritten letter from the queen in the Oval Room.

The US president will be the first elected political leader in modern times to be hosted for two state visits by a British king.

The late Queen Elizabeth welcomed Trump at Buckingham Palace for a three-day state visit in June 2019 during his first term of office.

During the visit, he enjoyed a private lunch with the queen and drank tea with Charles, who was then the heir to the throne.

Starmer and Trump are also scheduled to meet in Scotland later this month, sources told Reuters last week, with details including an undetermined specific date.

The two leaders have developed a warm relationship in recent months.

Last month Starmer-Trump signed a framework trading deal on the sidelines of a G7 meeting that officially reduced some US rates on imports from the UK.

In May, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney criticized Britain's invitation to Trump for a state visit, saying it undermined his government's efforts to project a unity front against the US president's plan to annex Canada.

Trump's previous visit to the UK has sparked major protests, with his visit in 2018 cost police more than 14 million pounds ($18.88 million) as 10,000 officers were deployed from across the UK.

Most Britons have negative views on the president, according to polls, opening new tabs, opening new tabs.

State visits are usually an event full of splendor, including an open horse train journey through the center of London and a banquet at Buckingham Palace.
