KKP Builds Global Standard Fisheries Certification System, MSMEs Benefit
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) continues to expand the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certification service for marine and fishery products. This step is taken to ensure quality, safety of consumption, and increase product competitiveness in national and international markets.
The Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine Products and Fisheries of the KKP, Tornanda Syaifullah, said that until now there have been 207 SNIs that have been issued and have become a reference in the production process and supervision of the quality of fishery products.
"KKP continues to expand SNI certification services to encourage the competitiveness of national fishery products. This certification is an added value so that our products can compete globally," Tornanda said in a statement in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, July 13.
According to him, the implementation of SNI not only guarantees the nutritional and safety aspects of products, but is also a strategic step for the government to increase consumer trust and preference for domestic fishery products.
To support this program, the Center for Testing and Implementation of Marine and Fishery Products (BBP3KP), which is under the Directorate General of Strengthening KKP Competitiveness, acts as a Fishery Product Certification Institute (LSPro-HP). BBP3KP is not only tasked with issuing suitability certificates and SNI SPPT, but is also active in the preparation of the SNI Draft (RSNI).
Head of BBP3KP, Rahmadi Sunoko, said that his agency is currently accelerating the program by expanding the scope of service. Currently, LSPro-HP BBP3KP serves 22 certification scopes and has a testing laboratory with 28 parameters.
"In the future, we will develop it into 207 certification scopes with testing laboratory support which has 44 parameters," said Rahmadi.
Of the 207 SNIs that have been issued, 152 cover fishery food products, while the other 55 are non-food products. This coverage area becomes an important foundation in building a more comprehensive SNI-based certification system.
Rahmadi also revealed the plan to develop a calibration laboratory to strengthen the tracing of test results and increase public trust in international standard marine and fishery product certification.
This KKP move has the support of the National Standardization Agency (BSN). The Director of Accreditation of the BSN Certification Institute and Institute, Fajarina Budiantari, said that the expansion of SNI services will encourage MSMEs to improve product quality and competitiveness.

The same thing was conveyed by the Director of Laboratory Accreditation of BSN, Agustinus Praba Drijarkara, who assessed that the construction of a calibration laboratory by the KKP would strengthen the tracing of measurements so that the test results could be more trusted.
Previously, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono also emphasized the importance of ensuring the quality of fishery products from upstream to downstream as part of a strategy to optimize the potential of the domestic market which continues to grow along with the increasing demand for community protein.
