BMKG Issues Extreme Weather Alert Status Amid Dry Season
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned the public to be aware of the potential for extreme weather in the form of heavy rain to strong winds that are still high in the next week or the period 12 July 18, 2025.
Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati said heavy rains were at risk in various areas, including North Sumatra, Aceh, Papua Mountains, to South Papua. Alert status has also been issued.
Meanwhile, strong winds also have the potential to hit a number of western to eastern regions of Indonesia, including Aceh, South Sulawesi, East Java, Maluku, and East Nusa Tenggara.
"Although we have entered the middle of the dry season, various global and regional atmospheric factors still support heavy rains and extreme weather in many areas," Dwikorita said in his official statement, quoted on Sunday, July 13.

In the oceans, wind speeds of more than 25 knots are predicted to trigger high waves in several waters such as North Aceh Waters, South China Sea, North Natuna Sea, eastern Java Sea, Flores Sea, Arafuru Sea, Timor Sea, Banda Sea, Seram Sea, Pacific Ocean north of North Maluku, and as well as the Indian Ocean southwest of Banten, south of Java, and south of NTT.
