Floods Soak Rice Fields And 7 Villages In Gorontalo District
GORONTALO - Floods hit residential areas and rice fields in seven villages in Gorontalo District after heavy rain fell on Wednesday, May 5.
Head of Gorontalo Province BPBD, Rusli Nusi, said the flood began at 3:00 p.m. in Limboto District, namely Hunggaluwa, Bolihuangga, and Tenilo sub-districts, as well as West Limboto District in Haya-haya, Padengo, Yosonegoro, and Pone Villages.
River water overflowed onto roads and residents' houses, thus hampering access to vehicles crossing roads in the area.
"The current condition is that around 1,300 people have been affected by the flood. BPBD officers are currently helping residents to siphon water from residents' houses with medical equipment," he said as quoted by Antara.
His party also carried out evacuation and data collection of residents affected by the disaster. In addition, there was damage to several agricultural areas due to the flood.
About 50 hectares of rice fields in Hutabohu Village, Padengo Village, and Haya-Haya Village, Limboto Barat District, were inundated.
Meanwhile, the area of submerged rice fields in Tenilo Village, Limboto District, is 162 hectares, with the age of rice plants ranging from 14-30 days.
"In Bolihuangga, there are 87 hectares of submerged rice fields and Hunggaluwa 18 hectares," he added.
Gorontalo BMKG issued an early warning to be aware of the potential for rain with moderate to heavy intensity, which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in some areas in Gorontalo District, North Gorontalo District, Bone Bolango Regency, and Gorontalo City.
