Riau Islands Police-Ditjen KonTRA Synergy Prevents TIP
BATAM - Riau Islands Regional Police (Kepri Police) synergizes with Korean entrepreneur organizations in Indonesia (CONTRA) to prevent cross-border crimes, especially acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO).
"The Riau Islands Police are ready to synergize in education, training and supervision to prevent transnational crimes," said Deputy Chief of the Riau Islands Police Brigadier General Pol. Anom Wibowo in his statement in Batam, Saturday.
The synergy between the Riau Islands Regional Police and the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KONTRA) was discussed during a meeting between the Deputy Chief of the Riau Islands Police and the Directorate General (Ditjen) OF COUNTRA in Batam, on Friday (11/7).
During the meeting, a number of strategic issues were discussed that would be collaborated by the Riau Islands Police and KONDRA, namely the handling of drugs and TIPs in Batam.
Then, efforts to prevent TPPO through training and education to prospective migrant workers; as well as cooperation support with Korean companies (KT&G/GMG) in supporting anti-TPPO campaigns and skills training.
The Riau Islands Regional Police's support for border surveillance is also discussed to prevent the circulation of illegal cigarettes.
The meeting was also attended by the main official of the Riau Islands Police, including the Director of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) Kombes Pol. Silvester, Director of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) Kombes Pol. Ade Mulyana.
Responding to the Deputy Chief of the Riau Islands Police, the KONTRA represented by Lee Jang Hee positively welcomed the synergy between the two parties and conveyed his commitment to follow up on skills training programs and public campaigns with the Riau Islands Police.
"We are grateful for the support of the Riau Islands Police and hope this cooperation program will run soon," said Lee Jang Hee.
After the meeting, the Riau Islands Police and KONDRA agreed to form a technical team to draft a training concept for prospective migrants and strengthen TIP prevention efforts in vulnerable areas.
Since 2019, the South Korean government has promoted Batam to a number of its entrepreneurs. This was conveyed at a meeting of the Batam Entrepreneurship Agency (BP) with the South Korean Embassy in Jakarta, dated October 22, 2019.
The visit was carried out as part of efforts to increase investment.
The collaboration between BP Batam and South Korea has occurred since 2006. In addition, the number of tourists in the country is ranked fourth most.
