Grateful 5 IDF Soldiers Killed In Gaza, Israeli Journalist Arrested

JAKARTA - Tel Aviv's Magistrat Court extended the detention of an Israeli journalist named Frey. He was detained because through his social media he was grateful that the IDF soldiers died in Gaza.

Frey conveyed this gratitude in a short article on his X account. The post is part of his criticism of what happened in Gaza.

"The world feels better this morning without five young people involved in one of the most violent crimes against humanity," the Israeli journalist wrote, referring to five Israeli soldiers or the IDF who died from an explosive device in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza earlier this week, quoted by Timesofisrael.

As a result of the upload, Frey was accused of inciting and supporting terrorism and was later arrested in Tel Aviv, Israel on Wednesday, July 9. His detention period was extended to Thursday, July 10 local time.

"Unfortunately, for boys in Gaza who are now undergoing surgery without anesthesia, girls who are starving to death, and families curled up in tents under the bombardment is not enough," Frey continued.

"This is a call for every Israeli mother: Don't be the next person to accept your son in a coffin as a war criminal. Reject it," he continued.

Citing Arab News reports, Frey has also been questioned by IDF soldiers for being critical of Israel. In March 2025, Frey was interrogated over allegations of inciting terrorism over several pro-Palestinian posts.

A Palestinian who injures IDF soldiers or settlers in apartheid is not a terrorist. And it was not a terror attack. He was a hero who fought against the invaders for justice, freedom and freedom," he wrote at the time.

This is also not the first time Israel's freedom of expression has been intimidated by Israeli journalists. On October 16, 2023, a week after Israel invaded, Frey, who previously expressed solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, was attacked by Israeli far-right mobs.

Luckily Frey was able to hide and escape from his home which was attacked by the right-wing crowd of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish.

He also survived and reiterated humanity above all else even though his detention period was extended this Thursday.

To Israel's Chief of Staff, Haaretz, Frey admitted that he would not bow his head over the abuse he experienced.

We have caused quite a lot of suffering, blood, and tears. Free Gaza. Enough," continued the Israeli journalist.
